Water chlorination is a commonly used method of protection against waterborne diseases. These methods are commonly used in any environment where good quality drinking water is needed. For a detailed guide on water chlorination, carry on reading.
What is Water Chlorination?
Water chlorination is the process of removing harmful bacteria from water. Water chlorination services can be used in a variety of situations that require water. These include water sprinklers, swimming pools, pipework, and water storage tanks.
Water chlorination services seek to eliminate bacteria in water storage vessels such as water tanks and bowsers. As this water is intended to be drinking water, it needs to be checked every 24 hours to make sure it is safe for human consumption.
Chlorine is the main chemical used in water chlorination. This is because chlorine can help reduce or remove the levels of contaminants in drinking water.
Water Chlorination Process
Before the water arrives on site there are a few steps that need to happen. Firstly, the vehicle that will transport the water to the final site postcode is cleaned and chlorinated. This is achieved by adding chlorine to water at the depot. This is followed by the operative filling the vehicle and testing it before leaving the depot.
The amount of chlorine that is added depends on the amount of impurities found in the water when the original measurement is taken. The amount of chlorine that is required to equal the impurities present is called the chlorine demand. Once this process has been carried out, the water is tested again to ensure it meets British standards BS8551 and BS8558.
The final stage is when the water gets to site. When the operative reaches the destination, it is essential that the tank the water is going to is set up for drinking water. This includes the pipework that transfers the water from the vehicle to the tank.
This is important because if you were to send the water through unchlorinated pipes, the whole job would be rendered ineffective. This is because there would be algae and bacteria present in the pipework, contaminating the water.
Why Are Water Chlorination Services Important?
Water chlorination services are important because contaminated water can have serious health side effects. Some of the problems that can come from drinking contaminated water include diarrhea, stomach cramping, nausea, and dehydration.
Water chlorination services can help to eliminate the effects of water contaminants. Contaminants can include but are not limited to lead, pesticides, radon, parasites and viruses. Many contaminants have no taste or odour, leaving no indication of contamination.
