Water Tanks and Bowser Spec Sheets
Important notes relevant to water bowser and tank hire.
Unauthorised use of hydrants and standpipes.
When you hire a water storage vessel from us, especially towable bowsers, you must fill the vessel in compliance with local water authority regulations. Amongst other things, this means using a standpipe that is licensed by the authority from which you intend to draw water.
Failing to observe regulations can and do lead to hefty fines for improper use of water authority equipment and supplies. Tardis as hirer of the storage vessel has no responsibility for the compliance of the party hiring the vessel(s) to observe laws and regulations.
Water storage vessels: Towable Bowsers, Static Tanks, IBCs etc.
To prevent the process of photosynthesis, it is the hirers responsibility to ensure that all clear 1000ltr water bowsers are covered to protect from direct sunlight
Unless you have an approved quality approved testing program in place we recommend all drinking water is boiled before use as a safety precaution. We can provide on site testing to verify drinking water is fit for purpose.
Drinking water / clean water, the difference explained.
All water delivered by Tardis Environmental comes from fully licensed approved water authority sources.
There are strict regulations on what can be called drinking water. Therefore unless the water is stated by us to be potable or drinking water (where the delivery and storage vessels are prepared beforehand to DWI standards), the water will be called CLEAN WATER and is not classed as suitable for drinking.
When choosing a storage vessel. again, we offer a choice. Clean water or approved drinking water vessels.
If further clarification is required, there is a wealth of information available on our drinking water website at www.tardish2o.co.uk where you will find a choice of vessels which are approved to carry and store drinking water.
Tardis fitters must have a 16 amp 230v power supply available to them – as well as the bowsers / tanks needing to be filled in order for our fitters to complete the installation. If these elements are not in place we won’t be able commission the install. Any visit back to site would be chargeable

Lifting Information
Hire Clause – Off hire collection (Mechanical Handling)
Having already arranged safe and adequate loading for the receipt of the equipment to be hired, it is essential when the item(s) come off hire that the same or similar adequate resources are provided by the hirer for loading on to our vehicle.
If these facilities are not provided, the item(s) will not be collected and their status will revert back to “on hire” with charges being incurred.
Alternatively, Tardis Environmental will provide adequate loading facilities at extra charge.
Option 1: When lifting bowsers with the lifting holes on top, please ensure you use the correct equipment. In this instance, please use lifting webbing slings (33mm). Slot the sling through the lifting eye and back through the sling. Do this on at least two of the lifting eyes to ensure a safe and steady lift.
Option 2: The second lifting option is D shackle’s with a minimum diameter of 8″ inches. Again please ensure this is on at least two lifting eyes.
Option 3: Forklift, most importantly when forking off the bowser be sure not to pierce the plastic shell of the tank with the end of the forks. Ensure the load is safe on the forks before removing the tank, if needed secure around the tank to the forklifts backboard using a ratchet strap.
Do not lift full under any circumstances.
Lids of the bowsers should be removed whilst in transport.
Option 1: Lifting chains, each of our towable and static bowsers have 4 x lifting points on each corner. This will enable them to be lifted safely via a safe and tested set of lifting chains.
Option 2: Forklift, our static bowsers will be supplied with forklift guide channels on the bottom of the frame to ensure a safe lift can take place. However, towable bowsers will not have such feature available for lifting so we advise only lifting the towable bowsers with a forklift if the forks are long enough to over balance the weight in favour of lifting. If unsure, please do not attempt.
Option 3: Slings, each bowser will have 4 x 1 ton lifting latches and can be lifted using slings. Please ensure at least two corners are lifting in this instance.
Do not lift full without advice.
Whilst in transport, lids should be removed.
Option 1: Lifting chains, each of our steel and plastic tanks will have a minimum of 4 x 1 tonne lifting latches, providing a strong point of lift for lifting chains.
Option 2: Forklift, all of our tanks are safe to lift via forklift, provided the tank is empty. The longer the forks used, the safer the lift. Please ensure if using this method the forks are spread as wide as possible to support the tank from tipping. The safest way to lift is to position the forklift as central on the tank as possible to ensure an even load.
Option 3: Slings, similar to the lifting chains, ensure all 4 lifting latches are used via chains. Please check the sling weight capacities before using.
Do not lift or transport these tanks with waste in.
3.9 4 Bay Portable Shower Trailer
Left: 4 bay portable shower trailer. Right: Important questions to consider when hiring the 4 bay shower trailer.
An appointed key holder for the trailer lock must be confirmed in writing before we attend site.
Spare bulbs are kept in the trailer incase bulbs blow.
Tardis are not responsible for drops in or lack of water pressure on site. Please ensure you have sufficient water pressure before the event starts, being mindful that as the population increases on sites water pressures may vary.
The further away from the water source/tap the shower is located the lower the water pressure.
Showers must be located on flat ground able to support the unit. Each corner of the shower is supported by jack leg stabilisers which must have solid supports, if used on grass, timber supports are recommended.
The shower will be delivered in full working order, any calls for Tardis to attend site following signing for the shower unit will result in additional charges.
Waste water must be disposed of responsibly. We advise you check you have authority if using existing drainage on site.
The showers are powered by propane gas which is stored within the service compartment of the unit. Any gas bottles supplied by Tardis must be returned to Tardis (always check to ensure gas is connected correctly, if in doubt seek advice).
Carbon monoxide detectors are fitted to the showers. These should be checked throughout the hire. If activated hirers are required to stop using the shower and contact Tardis immediately.
